3-Day Sled Dog Race Postponed Until March
"While there was probably enough snow for
the teams to negotiate the trails, mushers require at least a foot of snow
on the ground so that they can set their snow hooks to keep their teams from
running away with their sled" said Steve Jaillet, one of the race
organizers. "We don't like postponing the race, but it is the right
thing to do for the safety of the mushers and their dog teams".
The North Country Mushers are using the additional time before the event to promote the race, raise a larger purse, and expand participation in the event. Rescheduling will allow organizers to add a second class of race participants who will compete in shorter, “sprint” stages all 3 days using the same venues.
There will be a "Meet The Mushers" dinner on Friday March 13th at the Mahoosuc Inn. This dinner is open to the public and tickets can be purchased in advance at http://www.mahoosucoutdoors.com/event-tickets.html
The Milan stage will be held on Saturday March 14 beginning at 9 am from the Mahoosuc Inn. In addition to the race, spectators can partake of some of the family-friendly events planned for the day at Mahoosuc including bonfires, vendors, games and dog sled rides.
The Great North Woods Sled Dog Challenge is made possible through additional help from the Colebrook Ski-Bees, Pittsburg Ridge Runners and White Mountain Ridge Runners. The full schedule of rescheduled events may be found online at www.NHStageRace.com
