Gail Hanson, executive director of the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association, said the governor has agreed to attend this year's event, which is a weekend-long extravaganza for snowmobile lovers. Last year's event came without snow so Hanson said she is hoping for good conditions this year. And by the forecast, it looks as though there will not be a significant melt down as far as the eye can see.
"We have gotten the green light from the Governors office that she will be attending the Ride-In on Saturday to participate in the ride with the kids," she said. The plan is for the governor to leave Town & Country Inn and Resort, which is the headquarters for the annual ride-in about 10:30 on Saturday morning and tour the region.
This is the 42nd annual event which annually raises thousands for Easter Seals. It begins Friday with a silent auction, scenic view rides and a scavenger hunt. At night there is a spaghetti dinner, a kids room, opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m. and a comedy night beginning at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, the Presidential Range Riders Poker Run will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there is an antique snowmobile exhibit on the common in Gorham during the day. Also in Lancaster, the Snow Drifters will hold a sausage roast at the corner of Route 3 and corridor 5.
At 4 p.m. sleds need to meet up at the T & C for the costume parade, which will be held at 4:30 p.m. into downtown Gorham. Cash prizes will be given for the best decorated sled and the best costume.
Reservations at T & C are $99 per night per person based on double occupancy. For more information, call the resort at 603-466-3315.
