BERLIN--Local contractors came together to make much needed improvements to the Mud Pit and festival grounds for this year's 5th Annual Jericho ATV Festival to be held at Jericho Mountain State Park. Organized by Mike Couch of ROMIK Developers, over ten local companies and countless volunteers worked throughout the weekend to complete renovations on the ATV mud pit and the grounds.
"This year we have a new recipe for the mud pit. More muddy less watery," explained Paula Kinney, from the Androscoggin Valley Chamber of Commerce. While attending last year's festival it was clear to many spectators that the mud pit needed to be more challenging. Entering into its fifth year, the ATV Festival is continuing to grow.
"These improvements are critical in order for the festival to continue to grow. This workday was a tremendous success, and we are very grateful to the businesses that donated time and equipment. Without them none of this would have happened," explained Kinney.
Businesses who generously donated time and equipment included Mike Couch and Roland Berthiaume of ROMIK Developers, who donated equipment for the renovations. Mark Martin of M.S. Martin and Son Trucking donated a truck and driver, Carl Cote.
Albert and Chris Guay of Jericho Brook Commercial Development L.L.C donated a truck, loader and loam to help make improvements to the pit. Matt Carter of Berlin Water Works assisted with the renovations.
Mike Kelly of Kelly Logging donated a truck and an operator, Spencer Bilodeau. Berry Kelly of White Mountain Lumber donated a truck and driver, Chip Hynes. Steve Bennette of Ray's Electric donated the use of an excavator run by Magella Poulin.
Scott Turmel of Berlin Parks and Recreation was on hand during the workday to assist with the renovations. Charles Begin of HUTTER Construction from New Ipswich donated the use of a truck and driver, Al Morang. Steve Clorite of Jericho Gateway Family Campground and Norm Thibodeau of Great North Woods Container worked throughout the week as well.
Individual volunteers who also worked on the site renovations including Spencer Devost, Randy Bocher, Matt Godbout and Scott Ross. Members from the Festival Committee were also on hand to direct traffic and help as needed; Dick Huot, Rene Boutin, Dave Osgood, Jules Poulin and Paula Kinney.
"I have seen how important this festival is to the community, and I wanted to make sure that riders and families have a positive experience when they come here. We still have more work to do in the weeks leading up to the event, but thanks to the efforts of all the volunteers we are one step closer to completing the renovations," said Couch.
The three-day event will be held August 1, 2 and 3. New additions to the festivities this year include Rave X, a freestyle performance team who are well known for their highflying tricks. Business owner Bob Chapman of Chapman Container and Recycling is the sole sponsor for the group's performances, and hopes that it will be a big draw for families.
Other events include an ATV Pull, sponsored by H.K. Power sports of Laconia and Hooksett. The pull is coordinate by the N.H. ATV Club of Southern New Hampshire. This year's big announcement is the highly anticipated unveiling of the 2015 lineup from Polaris. Polaris will be showing off the new models for the first reveal in the nation at the ATV festival.
Four of the main manufactures will also have OHRV's on display including Polaris, Arctic Cat, Yamaha and Can-Am. "We are really excited that Polaris has chosen our event to unveil their new models. This will also be the first time that we have the "Big Four" all together," explained Kinney.
This is event is put on by the Androscoggin Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Androscoggin Valley ATV Club and many volunteers from the community. For more information visit http://www.androscogginvalleychamber.com or call 752-6060.
